KsTU Graduates Over 1,800 Students at its 22nd Congregation

The 22nd Congregation Ceremony of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has been successfully held, marking a significant milestone in the Institution’s history. A total of 1,861 students who completed their programmes during the 2023/2024 academic year were awarded degrees, Higher National Diploma and Diploma in various disciplines. The event was held at the New Great Hall of the University and it was a real showcase of academic excellence, resilience, and the Institution’s strides in technical education fashioned through innovation and global partnerships.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, in his address, underscored KsTU’s unprecedented growth, with over 13,000 applicants and a record of over 8,000 first-year enrolment in 2024/2025 admission period the highest enrolment ever since the Institution was founded in 1954. He attributed this success to flexible government policies, year-round admissions strategy and dedicated staff. The University now offers 31 postgraduate, 66 undergraduate, and 57 diploma programmes, including 40 newly accredited programmes including PhDs and studies in other paramedical fields like Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Prof. Dwomoh outlined KsTU’s achievements, emphasising its expanding academic portfolio, which now includes 31 postgraduate programmes (MTech, MEng, MSc), 66 undergraduate degree programmes (BEng, BTech, BSc, BA), and 57 diploma programmes. In 2023/2024 alone, 40 new programmes were approved, including a PhD, 17 Masters, 6 Bachelors, and 16 diplomas a situation which reinforces KsTU’s position as a leader in technical education.
He also talked about infrastructural developments emphasing that the Adako Jachie Campus of the University now fully accredited and operational, accommodating the Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology (FCAT), Faculty of Built and Natural Environment as well as Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development. Other milestones include a 70% completed Radiological Centre for the University Clinic, an operational police post on the Asem Campus, and a fully functional medical laboratory enhances healthcare services delivery in the University.
With 62 international partnerships, including collaborations with Durban University of Technology and the SKED Automotive Services, and 13 active research grants, KsTU continues to globalise its reach while addressing local needs. However, Prof. Dwomoh appealed to the government. He also appeals to the government through GETfund for the reimbursement of ₵7 million invested in the FCAT project at the Adako Jachie Campus and approval for its Phase 2 to meet the growing demands amidst a growing student population of over 17,000.
Prof. Dwomoh, in his advice to the graduands, stressed the importance of hard work, integrity, and creativity. “Challenge the status quo, manage your time wisely, and surround yourselves with positive influences,” he urged, calling them ambassadors of KsTU’s legacy.
Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), urged the graduands to adopt a “mindset of advancement.” He emphasised, “You have not only gained academic knowledge, but also, life skills that will guide you through your journey.” Highlighting government’s commitment, he referenced President John Dramani Mahama’s policy to cover academic facility user fees for first-year students which he said it is, aimed at enhancing tertiary education and preparing the youth for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, Bantamahene who represented the Otumfuor Asantehene lauded the graduates’ resilience and potential, noting the Asantehene’s enduring support for technical education as a foundation for national development. “Today, we celebrate not just academic achievement but the determination and boundless possibilities these young people embody,” he said.
The Chancellor of KsTU, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor expressed pride in the graduates, encouraging them to leverage their knowledge for impact and remain connected as devoted alumni.
The 22nd Congregation was more than a graduation—it was a testament to KsTU’s transformative journey and a celebration of the Class of 2024’s readiness to shape the future.
