Introduction

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics (Financial Statistics) programme is aimed at training students at the degree level with skill of collecting, analysing, interpreting and managing financial data to draw appropriate conclusions on financial issues such as microfinance, insurance, stock market and gross domestic product hampering the development of the economy.

Objectives

The objectives are for the learners to have the ability to:

  1. Equip students with conceptual and theoretical knowledge in Statistics as it relates to the Finance;
  2. Equip students with analytical and practical skills in handling real world financial problems;
  3. Train students to acquire ethical and professional skills in the realm of financial statistics;  
  4. Introduce students to conduct research into financial challenges and emerging issues in finance;
  5. Provide students avenue to further education in financial statistics.

Entry Requirements for Admission of Students:

To be admitted into BSc Applied Statistics (Financial Statistics) programme, a candidate must, satisfy the minimum University and the Department of Statistical Sciences entry requirements.

  1. SSSCE 

    Applicants Holders who have credit passes (A-D) in the following three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credits (A-D) in three elective subjects with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the relevant area of study (Including Agricultural Science or General Science or General Arts with Geography and Economics options or Business with Elective Mathematics option). 

  2. WASSCE 

    Applicants Holders who have credit passes (A1-C6) in the following three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credits (A1C6) in three elective subjects with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the relevant area of study (including Agricultural Science or General Science or General Arts with Geography and Economics options or Business with Elective Mathematics option). 

  3. GCE “O” and “A” Level 

    Applicants Holders with credits in at least five (5) subjects at the GCE 'O' Level (or its equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics, plus at Three (3) passes in the relevant subjects at the Advanced Level obtained in five (5) years and above. 

  4. HND and Diploma Applicants 

    HND Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (at least, Second-Class Lower Division) in Statistics will be admitted to third year (i.e. 5th Semester). 

  5. Other Diploma Qualifications relevant to the programme may also be considered and be admitted to second year (i.e., 3rd Semester). 
  6. Mature Applicants 

    Must be 25 years old with legitimate documentary proof which is at least five (5) years old at the time of application, must pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by KsTU, may have to attend and pass an interview. Evidence of working experience will be an added advantage.

  7. Foreign Applicants 

    Academic records of foreign applicants will be referred to GTEC for the determination of qualification equivalence and eligibility for admission as well as placement.

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
