Student’s Admission, Graduation and Progression
To be admitted into the Diploma in Health Statistics programme, a candidate must satisfy the minimum University and the Department of Statistical Sciences entry requirements.
SSSCE Holders
i. Passes (A –D) in 3 Core subjects: English Language, Integrated Science and Core
Mathematics plus,
ii. Passes in 3 Elective subjects including a pass in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Elective Mathematics, Economics and Geography.
WASSCE Holders
i. Passes (A1 – D7) in 3 Core subjects:
English Language, Integrated Science and Core Mathematics plus, ii. Passes in 3 Elective subjects including a pass in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Elective Mathematics, Economics and Geography.
Mature Students’ Entry
Mature Students who have attained the age of 25 years or above at the time of Application and have credits in Five (5) GCE ‘O Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics, in addition to passing an Entrance Examination and /or Interview.
WASSCE and SSSCE holders who are at least 25 years old and have passes (A1-D7 and A-D Respectively) in the following 3 Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus passes in 2 Elective Subjects in the relevant area of study.
OR
ADVANCED LEVEL Holders with credits in at least 5 subjects at the GCE ‘O’ Level (or its equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least two passes in the relevant subjects at the Advanced Level obtained in 5 years and above
OR
Other relevant Non-Tertiary Diploma qualifications from elsewhere may be considered.
Foreign Qualifications
All foreign qualifications should be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana (National Accreditation Board Act, 2007 [Act 744 (2(2b))].
Requirements for Graduation
For candidates to qualify for the award of Diploma, they must satisfy the following conditions:
A minimum of 60 credit hours in the two-year duration.
Attend all lectures and pass all required courses
Complete a required period of industrial attachment
Obtain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.5.
The study programme comprises the following inter-related elements of courses work and examinations.
Lectures: Covering both theoretical and practical aspect of health statistics.
Exercises: Various assignments including classwork, homework, quizzes, demonstrations and test to enable students gain a thorough understanding of the subject taught and their application to real life situations.
Field trips: Offering the possibility to visit health statistics workshops and institutions to put studies into context.
Examination: Mid-Semester and End-of-Semester written and practical examinations.
Credits Requirement
Candidates require a minimum of 30 credits for year 1 and a minimum of 30 credit hours for year 2.
Additional requirements for graduation
Assessment of candidates in the programme shall be based on Continuous Assessment made up of quizzes, class tests, mid-semester examination, take-home assignments, etc and end-ofsemester examinations. The continuous assessment shall constitute 40% of the overall marks for a semester, and 60% end-of-semester examinations.
Progression
A student who graduates from this programme can progress to the BTech level with a first class or second-class honours division.

Graduates of the Health Statistics programme are eligible to register for the national credential examination offered by the Allied Health Professions Council, Ghana, after completing a TopUp programme in Health Information Management.
Assessment Regulations:
a. Assessment of Students’ Performance and Achievements
Assessment shall be based on the assessment procedure currently used by the University. This would constitute 40% continuous assessment, (class test, quizzes, practical tasks, mid-semester examination and oral presentations) and 60% end-of-semester examination. Table 1: The Grading System

Mode of Certification
A minimum of four semester examinations is required to be written by each candidate taking the Diploma in Health Statistics. A successful candidate must obtain a minimum CGPA of 1.5 and satisfy all other requirements of the programme and relevant institutions.
The Diploma certificate will be awarded by Kumasi Technical University at the end of the programme to successful candidates, subject to confirmation by External Examiners/Moderators and relevant institutions. Diplomas will be awarded at four classes as follows:
